If I could rate my experience 0/10, I would. It takes a lot for me to leave a negative review, especially because I understand how challenging customer-facing roles can be. But the core of any business is good customer experience and honest customer service, and my experience with Peterborough Hyundai has been the opposite. And at the end of the day, if these individuals had daughters, sisters, wives, or girlfriends who dealt with what I did today and two weeks ago, I truly believe they would agree that there are big issues here that need to be addressed.

I bought my car in March and reached out to my salesperson the following week about the floor mats that were supposed to come with it. I was told that sometimes mats don’t arrive with the vehicle and that I would be called when they came in. I was also told there was no way for him or the parts department to get an ETA since I “now owned the car,” and that it was essentially my responsibility.

I waited almost eight months. At the end of October, I went in personally to check, assuming maybe they had arrived and the call had been missed. Instead, I was given conflicting information multiple times. The parts employee showed me a report and said I was halfway down a list of customers still waiting for mats — but when I asked for a timeline (because winter weather damages floors), I was brushed off.

I asked to speak to the manager, who came out with an obvious attitude, didn’t introduce herself, and seemed irritated that I wanted clarity. After nearly 20 minutes, she returned with a new explanation and a different report showing they hadn’t received any mats since 2023 — contradicting everything I had been told. At this point, I had been given three different stories by three different people.

Only when I asked to speak to the GM did a solution magically appear: a brand-new set of Santa Fe mats that fit my vehicle perfectly. It should not take escalating to the GM, or repeatedly being misled, to receive something that should have been included with my purchase in the first place.

I had already decided not to return for service after this, but I still had a recall and booked an oil change. When I arrived, I signed a work order showing a total of $98. After the service was done, the price was suddenly changed to $189+tax. When I asked for copies of my paperwork to understand the difference, the service advisor became defensive and said that if I was “going to give them a hard time” he would just change everything right then. I was not being difficult — I simply wanted to understand a nearly $100 discrepancy.

After reviewing my previous oil change bill, I confirmed I paid significantly less for the same service. When I went back in for clarification, I was told the difference was due to a turbo oil charge that hadn’t been added last time. That explanation would have been acceptable — but instead of calmly explaining it, I was met with hostility and comments about my previous mat experience, which had nothing to do with the current staff.

This review is not about floor mats or a $50 price difference. It’s about repeated misinformation, lack of transparency, and an unwillingness to communicate respectfully when a customer asks reasonable questions about a $70,000+ purchase.

Every customer has different priorities. Mine are honesty, safety, and respect. I did not receive that here, and I do not feel comfortable giving my business to an organization that dismisses concerns, contradicts itself, and reacts defensively when asked for clarity.

I do not recommend Peterborough Hyundai, and I hope the managers involved genuinely reflect on this experience and provide better training in customer communication, empathy, and conflict resolution.

Hello prospective buyers. I have owned directly or on behalf of my adult children about 15 Hyundai's. Usually 2-3 at anyone time, spread between me, my wife and one or more of the kids. Our favorite by a long stretch is the Palisade Calligraphy Edition. I opted to break the lease early on my 23 Santa Cruz and get my wife back into a Palisade. We live in rural Ontario and need the space for 3 large breed dogs when visiting my eldest in Quebec. Julie is my sales lady for our most recent lease and worked diligently to show me my options in the redesigned Santa Fe and refreshed Palisade. I opted for the Palisade and they happened to have available, a new NHL edition, which is so nice, my wife has forgiven me for selling her 23' white on white calligraphy. Harmony, the finance manager found herself dealing with a well informed veteran of the product and process of leasing a vehicle through my business. They had me in my new vehicle, despite the copious hurdles required to lease through a business, in just 4 business days. When I had objections or concerns through the process, I felt it was me that was the cause of miscommunication and not them. My concerns were dealt with professionally, with care and a general empathy or should I say without apathy, that we customers of the car buying/leasing experience have endured from other Dealers. I got to meet Nooril, the sales manager, a classy and empathetic leader. As well as share the news with Kelly at the service desk that there would be a new "horse in the stable." One thing I can say with conviction is Julie and Harmony were genuinely committed to the best possible service. I was happy to have had them on my Team.

Terrible experience and we would not recommend this dealership to anyone that we know. Word of mouth works wonders, when making a vehicle purchase.

Manager was rude and disrespectful. He went back on his word, on a deal that was agreed upon, prior to the vehicle arriving on the lot.

After the test drive, we were ready to make the purchase until we were told our original deal was no longer valid because we didn't make a deposit on our first visit. Deposit would not have been refundable, we were told and we had no opportunity to test drive the vehicle. It took 10 days for this used SUV to arrive. It had not sold on line prior to our second visit.

We were never informed that our agreement would not be accepted, without a deposit, as he claimed we were told He was aware on our first visit that we were NOT financing, yet the manager badgered us numerous times saying that we should finance for two years and it would only cost us around $100. He could not even quote me the rate and lying about the finance charges for two years is unacceptable. He was angry because he would not receive his commission on the financing. It was humiliating dealing with this manager that was yelling at me saying we didn't have a deal. I told him he was dishonest and very rude. Imagine speaking to customers in that way! Why would we even go back to test drive if we knew our agreed price was not available any longer???

I reached out to the other manager before leaving the dealership. He said he was going to call me the next day to try and help us out. Not only did I not receive his phone call to let us know where things stood but there was also no apology from the other manager regarding his childish, dishonest, disrespectful and rude behavior.
Other employees at the dealership that day, were friendly and helpful.

Needless to say it all worked out for the better. A few days later we purchased a beautiful, newer, lower mileage SUV for less money, from a fantastic dealership with terrific sales people and managers that were very honest, courteous and respectful.
