I have mixed feelings about this dealership. I bought a brand new, fully loaded 2024 Ioniq 5 in Feb. 2025. Took delivery of it in Ontario where I'd moved and soon noted a rattle that worsened. And the charging port door was misaligned. I thought it was poor craftsmanship on Hyundai's part but brought it to the local dealership to see what the source of the rattle was.

They found aftermarket parts on the car, so clearly there'd been an incident where work had been done and parts replaced. Remember, this is a brand new car. After some sleuthing on my part I learned my Ioniq 5 had been in a collision at River City's lot and the entire rear end replaced and a repaint done. As per AMVIC's guidelines, because the damage was less than $3,000 River City Hyundai was not obligated to disclose the damages/work done. So they said nothing when I bought the car, IMO hoping the truth would never be revealed. Again, after some research I calculated the wholesale and retail cost of the parts, I spoke with the autobody shop to understand the full scope of work done, and there's no way it was less than $3,000. We're taking about the entire rear hatchback, bumper and other associated parts and a professional paintjob. If I paid to have the work done it would've been approximately $8,000; for River City probably closer to $5,000.

I spoke with a consumer protection lawyer who advised me this is a clear case of misrepresentation. And so, after some heated conversations with River City my case was escalated and we managed to arrive at a reasonable solution.

It's BS that AMVIC -- who is useless btw (note: I did reach out to them as well but quickly determined they only care about the dealership's interests) -- has a 'policy' that allows dealerships to smash up a brand new car, fix it, and pass it off as if nothing ever happened. And it's BS that dealerships like River City Hyundai are ok with that. Maybe be honest and disclose these issues up front, and let buyers make an informed decision?

The only thing that takes this from 1 star to 2 stars is River City made it right in the end. Maybe to "do the right thing" or maybe because they worried I'd lawyer up .

In closing, if you're buying a vehicle -- at any dealership -- get them to disclose IN WRITING that the vehicle hasn't been in any kind of accident. Because based on AMVIC's BS 'policy' they aren't obligated to tell you if they determine the damages are less than $3,000.

I’ve consistently received excellent service at this dealership, and I’ve stored my tires here for several seasons without any issues. During my most recent visit for service and a seasonal tire swap, there was a mix up and another customer’s tires were installed on my vehicle by mistake. The service rep apologized and corrected the issue, although it did take a bit longer to complete the appointment.

I recommend taking a quick photo of your tires before storing them or doing a seasonal swap, just as a precaution.

Had a great experience when we traded in our 2023 Hyundai Kona for a 2025 Tucson. When I sent an online inquiry, I was contacted by Ghanem fairly quickly. I also spoke with Jazz, who inquired about our vehicle needs, which was extremely important. I got the Tucson in one of my favourite colours, which was a bonus. Within the next hour, I talked to Wayne in finance and secured a great deal that matched what I had told Jazz. I was impressed, as this was all negotiated quite quickly and very straightforwardly.

Wayne and Jason from finance provided a thorough explanation of the packages that could be added with the purchase. Also, they asked questions to determine what would be beneficial to us.

Pick-up time experience was also impressive. I asked Jason a lot of questions, and everything was answered, and he also honoured the trade-in valuation that was initially agreed upon. Ghanem introduced me to Jazz and the service department. He also showed me the vehicle features and was very thorough. I also got extra carpeted mats and a block heater cord.

The facility features a modern design and includes a beverage area where you can enjoy coffee and drinks at no additional cost.

After the purchase, I received a message from the service department thanking me for my purchase and providing instructions on how to reach out with any questions. I also received a call from Jazz within a few days for a check-in.

Totally different experience from other dealerships. I'm loyal to Hyundai and was ready to leave after a not-so-good experience with another Hyundai dealership. I'm glad I reached out to them after reading some recommendations.

The state of the art facility was very nice. The pop and coffee machines and also lounge upstairs are such a nice feature to the customer. Such a clean building. Staff was very attentive while my little truck broke down, on-site. My sales guy Garrett was such a great guy. Though he's going the ringer right now, he assured me it was sold to me. I assured him, I was coming for the sale eventually. He held onto it, in good faith. The deal took a long time putting all the pieces together, and we both had to be super patient, and my credit took a tumble after a life altering accident hauling cattle.
Needless to say, I'm beyond happy.

I purchased a 2023 Hyundai Palisade Ultimate Calligraphy from River City Hyundai expecting a safe and reliable family vehicle. What I received has been unsafe and unreliable, with repeated failures and constant deflection.

At just over 53,000 km the engine failed catastrophically near Rocky Mountain House. My family was stranded and we walked for about an hour and a half along a highway ditch to reach town. Hyundai Roadside towed the SUV to Gary Moe Hyundai in Red Deer. Their diagnosis showed misfires on cylinders two four and six, zero compression on two of those cylinders, liner wear, and the need for a short block replacement. The heads were machined and valves resealed.

I was without the vehicle for weeks and had to push for a rental, then had to fight to keep the rental while the repairs were being made. To be fair, River City Hyundai did arrange transport of the Palisade from Red Deer back to Edmonton when repairs were completed.

Days after I picked it up the vehicle failed again. It developed an RPM matched ticking sound, lurched heavily, would not accelerate past 20 km per hour with the pedal depressed, and would not rev past 3000. There was no check engine light. It had to be flat bedded again. I was later told the catalytic converter had failed, which fits as a downstream effect of the original engine event that I had repeatedly told them to look into... Keep in mind this happened literally two days after I got it back.

Since this second failure communication from River City Hyundai has become evasive. The sales manager who had been engaging with me has not provided clear answers. My requests for a straight response on next steps and on a buyback review and even a rental car have been getting ignored. It feels like deflection and now they just want to ignore the underlining issues to make me go away.

This vehicle is unsafe and unfit for purpose. The repairs to date have not restored reliability or confidence and essentially point to gross negligence.

Take my experience as a warning. As much as Hyundai will tell you they stand behind their warranty and as the sales manager told me "go above and beyond" you will be left having to fight them every step of the way. This isn't a one time event either, search up Hyundai engine failures and you will read many stories just like mine. Do not buy a Hyundai and do not buy from River City Hyundai.

Moe in Sales offered an excellent test drive, was super knowledgeable about the vehicles, and then went out of his way to get me the colour and model that I wanted from another dealership. He's been easily reachable via text whenever I have questions and even made me a little video to help explain a feature of my car. I then dealt with Neil in Finance and he was so friendly and helpful too. Because I was worried about getting a useless warranty, which has happened to me in the past, he took the time to explain and clarify every single detail of the warranty and contract, which I really appreciated. I've since had 3M coating and 6000km service done and the service department has been great. Everyone at RCH is always so friendly when I come in or message online.
